Antibacterial Properties of Chitosan

The antibacterial effectiveness of HemCon PRO chitosan products have been investigated using an in vitro methodology in which the antibacterial activities of chitosan were measured against 24 different strains of bacteria.

Results demonstrate that chitosan increased permeability on the inner and outer membranes and ultimately disrupted the bacterial cell membranes, releasing their contents.

HemCon hemostatic products provide a barrier to bacterial penetration within the dressing against a wide range of gram positive and gram negative organisms.
