HemCon® Bandage was a life-saving maneuver

“I was on-call for emergencies when I was asked to see this 80 year old man, who earlier in the day had undergone Moh’s surgery for skin cancer on his chin by a local dermatologist,” relates Dr. Ress. “The patient suffered from a rare coagulopathy, and would not create well formed clot. Standard hemostatic agents did not work for more than 24 hours before the clot would lyse and bleeding resumed.” Over a 2 week period, he used GelFoam®, Thrombin®, cautery, sutu.....

Complex Cardiac Surgery

Thank you so much for your product. My son was bleeding from an artery for 3 days following a complex cardiac surgery at Boston Children’s Hospital. Fortunately they were trialing your bandage here by request of one of the nurses and my son was the recipient of one of the two remaining patches. It has been 7 hours with no bleeding. I am so amazed and thankful that I had to write in with my gratitude for your commitment to saving lives. Darla Haskell, Fort Lauderdale, FL UPDATE.....

It helped save countless lives

More than six million bleeding wounds are treated annually by trauma and emergency rooms in the U.S., and Dr. Sudip Bose, an emergency physician and Iraq war veteran is witness to many of them. “I used the HemCon Bandage extensively in Iraq and it helped save countless lives; it was especially effective with amputations and penetrating wounds,” said Dr. Bose. “Wounds in the emergency room are different than those on the battlefield, but the bandage functions the same.....

I grabbed a bandage and stopped the bleeding

“Well, all I can say is thank goodness I had some HemCon Bandages available this morning.  My dad who’s on Plavix took a fall at the bedside and got a head laceration.  It was bleeding (profusely), I grabbed a bandage out of my bag put it over the laceration, held pressure and stopped the bleeding.  When EMS arrived they actually used saline to irrigate and remove bandage and inspect the cut.  I was so impressed!” Suzanne Thornburg, R.N. Clinician .....

Severe coagulopathy

Recently there was a 10 days old baby suffering from severe coagulopathy. The child had been bleeding from the navel for 2 days. Nothing helped. I was called in to treat the little baby. We used a 1 x 3 inch ChitoFlex dressing; put it on the bleeding navel for 5 minutes and the bleeding stopped. There has been no re-bleed from the navel. Yoram Klein, MD Dr. Klein, Head of Trauma – Kaplan Hospital, Israel. .....

Neonatal alloimmune thrombocytopenia

We had an interesting application of HemCon dental pledgets the other night. 8 day old with neonatal alloimmune thrombocytopenia (transient low platelet clotting disorder) and prolonged bleeding from his circumcision site. The family was offered either silver nitrate (chemical cautery) or HemCon. They selected HemCon which controlled the bleeding after 3 minutes of pressure and 1 reapplication.” Dr. John Devlin, LCDR U.S. Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, EMD .....

Wonderful care, which included your product

My mother recently had three coronary stents put in to relieve nearly complete blockage of her left hand side coronary arteries. When the catheter was removed from the artery in her leg, there was sudden uncontrolled bleeding that resisted the surgeon’s efforts to stem. They applied considerable physical force and a HemCon bandage and the combination was successful in allowing the opening to her artery to close over so she could go on to recovery. We live in NY but went to the Clevel.....

Used on virtually all extraction patients

“The HemCon Dental Dressings were used on virtually all extraction patients, and they performed beautifully to seal the wounds and provide pain relief. We found the dressings easy to place with very predictable results. This was an excellent application for the HemCon dressings in the postoperative environment.” John G. Eckmann D.D.S. – Lake Oswego, OR Dentistry for Adults and Children .....

Use the HemCon Bandage when conventional means fail

In the emergency department I have used The HemCon Bandage when conventional means have failed. A few weeks ago I had a patient with a large lingual tumor and trismus (about 1cm). The tumor was bleeding quite briskly and we could not get to it. I put a HemCon 1×3 inch bandage into the patient’s mouth over the bleeding tumor. I put some slight pressure on it and got control of the bleeding. It has also been very helpful in patients who are anticoagulated. Dr. Richard Schwartz, Me.....

Infant in DIC – Diminished the flow of blood

We applied it to an infant who was in DIC and multi-organ failure from sepsis of unknown origin… After two hours the amount of bleeding from the wound seemed to diminish. I changed the dressing and noted “new” clot which was a significant difference; I applied the ChitoFlex to each of the wounds for a better fit; seemed to help diminish the flow of blood. Martin R. Eichelberger, M.D. Pediatric Surgeon, Children’s National Medical Center – Washington, DC .....

When bleeding could not be controlled any other way

Controlled surgical site bleeding and reduced required cauterization

I used HemCon’s ChitoGauze on a male patient undergoing rhytidectocmy.  Typically, male patients bleed much more than female patients and a great deal of cauterization is required.  The ChitoGauze product did a nice job of controlling surgical site bleeding and, as a result, significantly reduced the amount of cauterization required. John S. Lee, M.D., P.C., Northwest Natural Faces – Portland, Oregon .....

Without your products, I know that some of my friends would not be around today.

“I have deployed with 3rd Special Forces Group to Afghanistan twice while I was in the Army and have used your products on both American and Afghan Forces.  I know that you offer a superior product to anything on the market.  I have seen firsthand the quickness and effectiveness in your product at controlling bleeding from both gunshot and blast wounds.  I now work as a police officer and carry your products with me while on patrol.  I have and will continue to trust my life to your.....

Thank you for your support sir of me and my sailors/soldiers/airmen

“I have recently returned from Afghanistan and wanted to share my experience with the ChitoFlex, used in two different occasions on patients. Both involved AK-47 rounds, 7.62mm round. 1. A check point soldier was shot in the shoulder during an ambush. The bullet entered the right shoulder from a superior lateral directed towards the lungs. He would require a right chest tube but importantly the penetrating wound was such that it involved bone marrow destruction and other tissue.....

Simple to use and simple to apply

“As the Primary Instructor for Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) course, I personally have trained over 1000 Special Operations soldiers/sailors/airmen on the HemCon dressing before they go over seas in the last 12 months. They all were very impressed and excited on how well it worked on the severe bleeding models that we showed them. In my opinion it is head and shoulders above the gauze we carried to stop bleeding, in fact there is no comparison. Every soldier should have this dr.....

Army officials say thousands of soldiers in Vietnam might have been saved

Army officials say thousands of soldiers in Vietnam might have been saved if these chitosan bandages had been around. “When you look at the wound data from Vietnam, about 10 percent of all the fatal wounds were from uncontrolled hemorrhage or uncontrolled bleeding,” says Lieutenant Colonel Ian Wedmore, a surgeon at the Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, Washington. “So if you look at that and say, well if we have a device that would stop this uncontrolled hemorrha.....

the single greatest improvement to combat medicine since the inception of aero-medical evacuation

“…I am an medical operations officer with the 101st Airborne Division in Tikrit, Iraq. I wanted to take this opportunity to let you know that the HEMCON dressing is making a difference over here. Countless stories have been recited from the combat support hospitals to the infantry medics as to how many lives this product has saved. As a soldier deployed in a combat zone, I am comforted to know that my life and the lives of my fellow soldiers are protected by a medical system that .....

The anticipated guidelines will call for HemCon to be used first

“…Bleeding to death from torso wounds where the source of bleeding is accessible by the first responder is another cause of preventable death. The MRMC has tested the HemCon dressing and found it to be effective in stopping this type of bleeding. We have been fielding this dressing for several years. The Committee on Tactical Combat Casualty Care has recently conducted a review of hemostatic agents and updated guidelines, to be published next year, to incorporate the use of QuikClot i.....

Valuable tool for those taking care of people who have traumatic wounds.

“I have used it on a variety of wounds and when placed appropriately it is a very good way to control hemorrhage temporarily. It can be used in difficult wounds and I have used it on a variety of wounds to include: cardiac injury, vertebral artery injury, diaphragm, chest wall, pelvic fractures, scalp lacerations, and extremity wounds. While it is not the solution for all sources of hemorrhage, it is an extremely valuable tool for those taking care of people who have traumatic wounds......

Hopefully my team will never have to use them again, but if we do, I know they can make the difference.

“I got the dressings for my personal IFAK from a medical unit in Taji , Iraq in late 2004. I served as an Infantry Sniper there, and asked for them to ensure my team would have a better chance if wounded while working away from the medics. I did get to employ one when a platoon I was attached to ran across a wounded Iraqi. He had a gunshot wound to the knee, going upwards into the thigh. It was bleeding quite a bit, and the Hem-con did a great job in sealing the wound. I’ve been v.....
